Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Kardie Tobb.

Hi Dr. Tobb, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It was all a dream until Tobbs* was created. It started in a local tailor’s shop in my hometown of Bong Mines. I was always fascinated by how my mom’s tailor cut pieces of fabric to create amazingly designed outfits. As a little girl, the idea of picking up leftover clothes from the tailor’s trash was gold in my eyes. These were great pieces to create outfits for my dolls. I have a personal appreciation for fashion and design as well as the great minds in the industry. For my parents, there were two choices for a successful career encouraged: a doctor or an engineer, and anything else in between may have been a disappointment. I grew to love medicine. With that, the reality of success was getting a college degree, then completing medical school. It was attainable. Hard work and dedication led me to become a physician and a cardiologist. But that little girl who was the fashion and creative designer was still living buried inside of me.

I completed my residency in 2017 in internal medicine to transition to my cardiology fellowship. A traditional accomplishment, I was fulfilled but not quite content. My beloved husband – Mr. Alhagie Tobb is to be credited for being the biggest influence on helping me find that little girl again who dreamed of designing her own clothes and bags one day. He helped me appreciate that anything is possible: I could be a physician and also explore my once-buried passion (to be a creative designer).

With his support and encouragement, I started designing my outfits to be made by my local tailor in The Gambia. I felt I was finally living my purpose to the fullest. With my new wardrobe change to mostly clothing of African print to fit the “American professional wardrobe” I received many compliments that inspired me to share more. Tobb*s was founded with the intent to service women who would like to enjoy carrying cultural authentic style along on their professional journeys.

On our online store www.tobbstars.com available are creative designs of Tobb*s handmade through collaboration with local artisans in The Gambia and Senegal. This brings me joy and satisfaction.

As a cardiologist, I advocate optimal health care in all women and promote empowerment of women. As a creative designer and the founder of Tobb*s I want to share my passion for fashion and style to help other women appreciate their own authenticity.

I believe that fashion symbolizes much more than just clothing or accessories. It reflects cultural, social, and personal identity, as well as values and beliefs.

To sum up, I am truly humbled to self-identify as a mother, a cardiologist, a creative designer, an entrepreneur, and a humanitarian.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Challenges in staying true to the fundamental principle of being unique and authentic.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Physician (Cardiologist)/Creative Designer/Entrepreneur.
